Stronger Sino-Russian Relations: CCP President Xi Jinping's New Year's Greetings with Vladimir Putin

During his New Year's greetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Sunday that the basis of Sino-Russian relations had become stronger in 2023, according to official media.

While Western nations have abandoned Russia in response to its invasion of neighboring Ukraine, Beijing and Moscow have grown closer as friends.

Xi has called Putin his "good friend," and both parties have emphasized the personal connection between the two presidents.

According to official broadcaster CCTV, Xi told Putin on Sunday that "the material and public opinion foundation of our relationship has become stronger" at his year-end review with Putin.

"China-Russia relations have maintained healthy and stable development and moved steadily in the right direction," Xi remarked, despite the fact that the world was experiencing conditions not seen in a century and a great deal of instability.

As a consequence of the Chinese leader's leadership, "political mutual trust between the two sides has further deepened, strategic coordination has drawn closer, and mutually beneficial cooperation has continued to achieve new results," according to the reports.

Xi said that the amount of commerce between the two countries surpassed $200 billion more quickly than expected and expressed Beijing's anticipation of celebrating the 75th anniversary of the start of diplomatic relations in 2024. Xi said that keeping relations close to Moscow was a "strategic choice" when Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin was visiting Beijing earlier this month.
