As a money coach, TikToker Orlenda (@peroicandoittoo) uses her channel to empower "women of color to create a life they never witnessed their family live." She has just transformed an event that went viral into a chance to educate her 5,000 followers something new. After her video went public, she said that her employer had fired her, only to have them later request that she return the business laptop.

"The company that fired me requested that I arrange for UPS to collect my laptop on my own will - 19 days later," she said. I rejected the idea of "free labor," she said. How about we discuss the clever ways that people work for free?

Orlenda said that it is totally unacceptable and a kind of free labor to expect her to arrange for the return of the laptop nineteen days after her employer fired her.

@peroicandoittoo My laptop had not been picked up 19 days since my last day and decided to email them. I was told they never scheduled the pick up after I advocated for myself that going to a Fedex or UPS was difficult for me. (What would have happened if I dint reach out? I wonder) My small town doesn’t have a store and roundtrip would be a 50 min car ride. While working there, I always used UPS and they pick up from my house when I need it. In the email I was told to call UPS to schedule bc she did not know how to do it. I kindly had to say that I wasn’t able to schedule the call because:
1️⃣ It costs money that I am not paying for my own lay off. 2️⃣ This is part of the off boarding process, that I refuse to orchestrate. When we think of unpaid labor, we might think: 🙅🏽‍♀️Taking on extra projects 🙅🏽‍♀️Working outside of our working hours But can we address the sneaky forms of unpaid labor: ✨Our time ✨Our emotional capacity ✨Extra duties because of our gender or skin color: Like educating someone on history because of where we come from or planning a party because you are the women of the office. Unpaid labor looks different. I challenge you in any situation to think, WHY YOU? #layoff #layoffs #lostjob ♬ Dinero (feat. DJ Khaled & Cardi B) - Jennifer Lopez

She went into great length about how this request is bothersome for her. It would take fifty minutes to go there and back from my little town, which doesn't even have a shop. "I used UPS all the time while I was working there, and they come and get my packages whenever I need them," she said.

Orlenda stated her refusal to comply with the request due to the financial implications. The cost of my own layoff will not fall on me. I will not be involved in orchestrating this off-boarding procedure. Other people should be wary of the "sneaky forms" of unpaid work that she described.

Workers who do not get payment may be those who require "our time, our emotional capacities..."Additional responsibilities due to our gender or race: For example, organizing a company party just because you're the ladies in the workplace or giving a history lesson just because someone asked you to.

Undisclosed work seems differently," she went on to say. No matter what, I dare you to ask yourself, "Why you?"

Over 52,000 people have seen her video. Many people could relate to her remarks since they were so relatable. "I went through the exact same thing. I politely informed them it wasn't my issue and left my laptop on my front porch. A viewer stated that they eventually stood up to retrieve it, which made them laugh.

According to some, they support her decision. They may arrange for someone to come from the office to get the laptop if they're interested. "Since I am no longer employed by you, I am disinterested and cannot be held responsible," someone else said.
