In Shelby Park, located along the banks of the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass, Texas, the presence of razor wire appears to be effective. Individuals attempting to unlawfully enter the country are unable to bypass the barbed wire. The park has emerged as a significant point of contention in the ongoing dispute between Texas and the Biden administration regarding the protection of the southern border. As a response, authorities in Texas have enacted a law prohibiting federal law enforcement from accessing the park.

Jorge Ventura from NewsNation has observed numerous instances of migrants located just beyond the razor wire. Several individuals have patiently waited at the park for a duration of three days, with the aspiration of gaining entry into the United States.

In recent weeks, the Texas National Guard assumed control of the park. Members have been diligently installing razor wire and other fencing designed to deter climbing, despite the recent Supreme Court ruling affirming the Biden administration's authority to remove it.

According to state officials, Shelby Park is accessible to the public. However, the Department of Homeland Security has contradicted this claim, stating that federal agents are still prohibited from entering the area.

According to a letter from DHS counsel Jonathan Meyer to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, it appears that Texas has restricted access to Shelby Park. The park seems to only be accessible to the public for memorial purposes, the media, and for those using the adjacent golf course. However, access to the park for US Border Patrol seems to be limited. He informed Texas that it was necessary to allow federal police access to the park.

Last week, Chris Olivarez, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, stated that state law enforcement officers had begun apprehending individuals at Shelby Park for "criminal trespass" due to the perceived lack of action from the Biden administration regarding illegal immigration. According to him, Texas is committed to leading the efforts in preventing illegal border crossings outside of official entry points.
