Arrest Made in Decade-Long Investigation: Philadelphia Man Charged in Hilltown Township Homicide

The death of 48-year-old Joseph Canazaro in his Hilltown Township home in 2013 has led to the arrest and charging of a man from Philadelphia. The Hilltown Township Police Department conducted a ten-year investigation before charging Thomas Delgado, 50, on Wednesday afternoon with felony counts of criminal homicide, kidnapping, rape, burglary, robbery, false imprisonment, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and related conspiracy offenses.

According to court documents, Delgado is being detained without bond at the Bucks County Correctional Facility.

According to a 2023 release from the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, two armed males invaded Canazaro’s residence along the 300 block of Swartley Road shortly before 10 a.m. on Jan. 18, 2013. According to media accounts at the time, the suspects—one thought to be Hispanic and the other thought to be Asian—entered the house via a first-floor window and bound Canazaro, his girlfriend, and his 12-year-old kid.

After robbing the house of firearms, cash, jewelry, and bank documents, the suspects allegedly took off in Canazaro's vehicle. After gaining their freedom, the son and girlfriend proceeded to a neighbor's home and called 911. But according to authorities, when the police got there, they discovered Canazaro dead inside the house's garage.

Later, the location of Canazaro's truck was discovered in the Quakertown Plaza Shopping Center. There, the suspects were seen on security tape from a nearby store arriving in the truck, putting the stolen goods into a getaway car, and driving off.

According to sources, Canazaro filed for bankruptcy in 2008 after failing on loans and owing money to casinos. Canazaro owned a number of buildings and companies, including Finn McCool's Tavern on Penn Street in Hatfield Township. Canazaro owed creditors millions of dollars at the time of his death, which led investigators to surmise that money could have played a role in his murder.
