US Border Patrol authorities apprehended a felon attempting to enter the country illegally this week, two child sex offenders, and a killer with a criminal record. "USBP agents in Del Rio, TX & Rio Grande Valley, TX apprehended two child sex offenders with previous felony convictions," said Chief of the US Border Patrol Jason Owens in a post on X that included a photo of the two men.
Owens said, "These persons were discovered attempting to enter the country illegally again." "The fact that agents were on patrol prevented them from entering your areas. #HonorFirst"
U.S. Border Patrol Chief Patrol Agent John Modlin of the Tucson Sector reported the detention of two more males on Thursday. "Both suspects have disturbing criminal convictions," he said, "and Tucson Sector authorities seized two migrants for unauthorized entrance into the United States." One was for attempted and second-degree murder, while the other was for endangering the welfare of a minor. Federal prosecution is pending for both.
The arrests coincide with the disclosure by Customs and Border Protection that since October, the Border Patrol has come across 634,066 undocumented aliens attempting to enter the United States. Fifty of them were on the terror watch list.
If Congress grants President Biden a new emergency authority that would enable him to seal the border when it became "overwhelmed," he has pledged to do so. Additionally, a Senate Bill would provide the United States "an extra 1,300 border patrol agents, 375 immigration judges, 1,600 asylum officers, and over 100 state-of-the-art inspection devices to assist identify and block fentanyl at our southwest border," according to Biden.
President Biden does not need to wait for Congress to act on the border problem, according to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson's remarks on Saturday. He said in a post on X that "he can and must take executive action immediately to rectify the calamity he has caused, as I outlined to him in a letter late last year and have directly emphasized to him on several times since."
"He has 'ample power' to'suspend the entrance of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any limits he may determine to be appropriate,'" Johnson said, citing the Immigration and Nationality Act and recent Supreme Court precedent. "By terminating catch-and-release, stopping the abuse of parole power, resuming the Remain in Mexico program, increasing the use of expedited removal authority, and resuming border wall construction, President Biden can start to secure the border."
