In response to the fact that the President's son defined earlier subpoenas in December, Hunter Biden has now consented to take a deposition in front of legislators in a private setting. A resolution that would hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress was the subject of markup discussions that took place on Wednesday in the House of Representatives.

In a letter that was sent on Friday to the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, James Comer, and the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Jim Jordan, Abbe Lowell, the defense attorney for Hunter Biden, informed them that his client would be willing to take a deposition in the event that a fresh "proper" subpoena was sent.

Legally speaking, the subpoenas for depositions that were issued to Mr. Biden on November 8 and 9, 2023, as well as the contempt resolutions that were adopted by your committees on January 10, 2024, were and continue to be illegal. "You have not provided an explanation as to why you are not interested in transparency and having the American people witness the full and complete testimony of Mr. Biden at a public hearing," the letter that Lowell writes ultimately says.

For a hearing or a deposition, Mr. Biden will cooperate with your request if you issue a fresh lawful subpoena now that there is a properly authorized investigation into the impeachment of the Vice President. For the sake of Mr. Biden, we are willing to comply with such a subpoena?

The subpoenas that were issued in November, according to Lowell's writing, "were and are legally invalid and cannot form a legal basis to proceed with your misdirected and impermissible contempt resolution."

"You have not provided an explanation as to why you are not interested in openness and in public hearings where the American people are able to observe Mr. Biden's full and complete testimony. Considering that there is now an impeachment investigation that has been properly authorized, Mr. Biden will cooperate with a subpoena for a hearing or a deposition if you issue a fresh valid subpoena. On behalf of Mr. Biden, we are willing to comply with such a subpoena," Lowell wrote.
