On January 5, Wayne LaPierre, who has been the public face of the National Rifle Association (NRA) for a very long time, made the announcement that he would be leaving the organization that advocates for the Second Amendment.

Mr. LaPierre said that he is proud of his stint with the group and is looking forward to continuing to advocate for the rights of Americans under the Second Amendment. He cited health issues as the cause for his removal from the organization.

In a statement that was published on the website of the National Rifle Association (NRA), Mr. LaPierre is cited as saying, "With pride in all that we have accomplished, I am announcing my resignation from the NRA."

Throughout the most of my adult life, I have been a card-carrying member of this organization, and I will never cease supporting the National Rifle Association and its struggle to safeguard the freedoms guaranteed by the Second Amendment. The fire of my zeal for our cause is as strong as it has ever been.

As the procedures in a corruption case that was filed against the National Rifle Association (NRA), Mr. LaPierre, and other NRA leaders are scheduled to commence the next week, he has decided to retire. Mr. LaPierre's resignation will become effective on the 31st of January.
