During his Emmy Award acceptance speech, RuPaul Charles passionately defended drag queen story hours, claiming that detractors are trying to "restrict your access to power."

The star of "RuPaul's Drag Race" said, "Listen, if a drag queen wants to read you a story at a library, listen to her," as he took the stage in Los Angeles on Monday to accept his record-breaking win in the 75th annual awards show's Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program category.

The 63-year-old artist said to cheers, "Knowledge is power, and if someone tries to restrict your access to power, they are trying to scare you, now hear a drag queen speak!" stated Charles.

The TV personality's remarks coincide with a wave of anti-drag show legislation that has recently been adopted around the nation. A federal court declared a Texas statute that forbade certain "sexually oriented" acts from occurring on public land or in places where kids may see them to be unconstitutional last year. A minimum of six states have passed legislation limiting drag or "adult" acts.
