As per Houston Police Department officials, a Texas father took action on Friday night (January 5) after discovering that the 30-year-old stepfather had allegedly sexually assaulted his 12-year-old daughter. The father shot the stepfather in response to this disturbing incident.
Houston PD officials reported that the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. at a West Houston apartment complex in the 700 block of Bateswood Drive, located just South of the Katy Freeway and East of the Sam Houston Tollway. Prior to the shooting incident, law enforcement stated that the daughter had left a note for her mother, making allegations of sexual abuse against her stepfather.
Upon receiving the note, the mother promptly went to retrieve her daughter from her ex-husband's residence, before returning to her own home. The Texas father later arrived at the mother's home, where they started discussing the situation outside of the house. Eventually, the mother's new husband, the stepfather, returned to the apartment and was confronted by both parents regarding the allegations, which he promptly denied.
According to reports, the mother and daughter decided to depart from the apartment, allowing the biological father and stepfather to carry on their conversation regarding the accusations. During the incident, the biological father ultimately fired shots at the stepfather, injuring him in the stomach and legs.
The stepfather was quickly taken to a local Houston hospital, in what police described as a serious condition. Police also mentioned that the stepfather successfully underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery. Authorities stated that following the incident, the father promptly returned to his residence, which happens to be in close proximity to his former spouse's apartment. When officials arrived at the scene of the incident, the ex-wife's residence, they discovered the biological father at his apartment, where he willingly assisted the police officers.
The Texas father is anticipated to be charged with aggravated assault involving a dangerous weapon. Investigators stated that the case remains open and they are currently in communication with the child to ascertain the credibility of the accusations. Currently, it remains uncertain whether charges will be brought against the stepfather.
