Ex-Democrat Backs Trump for President; Tulsi Gabbard Considered as Republican VP Pick

Tulsi Gabbard, a former congresswoman from Hawaii, praised Donald Trump, the Republican front-runner for the presidency, while denouncing her old party as powers-hungry opponents of democracy.

In order to denounce the alleged "rigging" of the party primaries against Bernie Sanders and in favor of Hillary Clinton, Gabbard resigned from her position as vice-chair of the Democratic National Committee in 2016. She gave a speech on Thursday at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), which takes place not far from the nation's capital.

During her address, Gabbard attacked the "Democrat elite and the swamp monsters in Washington," saying they were "motivated by their insatiable greed for power" and showed no regard for the rights of Americans.

She said that Democrats believe that if elected, Trump would "destroy our democracy."

According to them, if he wins, this would be the last election this nation ever sees, and he will be the tyrant in charge. It is absurd. This is absurd to the point of humor. They convince themselves that in order to preserve our democracy, they must destroy it, which serves as justification for their acts. It is madness, and it is the dictator's worldview and attitude, Gabbard said. "They are fighting on several fronts, and they will not give up until they win."

She called Trump "a warrior," noting that his tenacity and fortitude stem from "a true love and concern for our country's future and his caring for the American people." She said that in the meanwhile, President Joe Biden, whom she supported in 2020, would "crumble" under a small portion of the pressure and criticism being leveled at Trump.

Gabbard condemned prosecutions meant to find Trump guilty of anything before the November election, as well as moves by some US states to remove him from the ballot. She said that the most recent ruling against Trump's New York company was "very obviously a politically motivated hit job."

The Guardian, which disagreed with Gabbard's message, said that the address "sounded like an audition for the vice-presidency." According to the British publication, she received "a standing ovation and shouts" and "significantly greater passion" than former British prime minister Liz Truss, who also spoke at the event.

As the candidate who received the most votes in US history in the 2020 election, Biden is the target of Trump's desire for a rematch. He allegedly brought up Gabbard as a potential running partner earlier this week.

From 2013 until 2021, the 42-year-old lieutenant-colonel in the US Army Reserve was a member of the House of Representatives. In 2022, she announced her departure from the Democrats, branding them as a group of arrogant, belligerent, and "cowardly woke" people who wanted to split the country by "racializing every subject."
