Tragic Discovery: Father's Friend Charged with Capital Murder of 11-Year-Old Texas Girl

Tuesday's discovery of the 11-year-old Texas girl's corpse in a river has led to the charging of Audrii Cunningham's father's friend with capital murder. According to jail records in Polk County, which is located north of Houston, 42-year-old Don Steven McDougal is accused of killing a person who was between the ages of 10 and 15, according to Fox News.

McDougal, who was already in prison on an unrelated allegation of severe assault, was identified as the primary person of interest in Audrii's disappearance before her corpse was discovered in the Trinity River. His detention is unrestricted.

According to court filings, McDougal resided in a camper on the family's Livingston property. Family members claimed he was meant to drive her to a school bus stop when they departed on Thursday, the day she was last seen alive. The following day, he was taken into custody on the assault accusation. According to court filings, "video footage and mobile phone data placed McDougal at three sites of interest."

According to the records, Audrii's corpse was bound with a huge boulder, and CNN notes that the rope used "was comparable with rope that was discovered in McDougal's car during a traffic check two days previously."

According to Fox, McDougal has been arrested several times and was found guilty in 2008 on two counts of enticing a kid. Audrii's "Hello Kitty" bag was discovered next to the Lake Livingston dam at one of the biggest reservoirs in the state, after her report as missing.

According to the AP, Polk County Sheriff Byron Lyons said on Tuesday that in order to assist search crews in the water, the river authority reduced the reservoir's discharge.
