Following election results that suggested a Democrat would take over his old House seat, former GOP Representative George Santos continued to poke fun at his former colleagues on X on Tuesday.
Tom Suozzi, a Democrat, will take Santos's seat, which would reduce the slim Republican majority in the House. In the contest for the congressional seat for the third congressional district of New York, Suozzi beat Mazi Pilip, a Republican.
"Hi, Americans! Thank you very much for denying these two treasures a seat in the house today!" Following his indictment on 23 charges of suspected wire fraud, money laundering, and identity theft, Santos shared a selfie of himself with GOP Representatives Nick LaLota and Anthony D'Esposito, who backed his removal from the House.
Santos has entered a not guilty plea to the allegations.
"Prison is the proper place for George Santos to be, not Congress. In an October statement, LaLota announced his submission of a motion to remove Santos from the House. "He lied to voters, funders, and party officials to get to this point, committing countless acts of fraud," LaLota stated. He has had more than enough time to make the proper decision and step down. The only reasonable course of action is to remove him from Congress since he has shown zero integrity or moral character. Once he is in prison, both the House and New York will benefit."
Subsequently, an ethics investigation revealed that Santos had misrepresented donors and exploited political contributions for his campaign, using donor money for Hermes luxury items, Botox, and OnlyFans. The report, in his words, was a political "smear." Santos used the simple hashtag "-1" in a another tweet, alluding to the lost GOP seat.
