The Collegiate Charter of Lowell Girls' Basketball team withdrew from a game against KIPP Massachusetts in February, according to The Daily Mail. Following the injuries to three of their players by a KIPP player—who happens to be a biological male—they had to forfeit. Officials from the school indicated that the squad chose to forfeit since the postseason was about to start and other players were scared of being hurt.
Social media users have been sharing game footage of the transgender player stealing the ball from another player and sending her to the ground. Spokesman for Collegiate Charter Casey Crane issued a statement expressing the school's support for coach Kevin Ortins' choice to forfeit at halftime, given the closeness of the team's playoff match.
As a result of seeing a third player sustain an injury during the game with KIPP Academy on February 8, the coach of the Collegiate Charter School of Lowell girls' basketball team made the decision to halt the game at halftime.
With four of the team's twelve players out of the game, the bench was already thin coming into the match. The coach decided to stop the game early after seeing three more players fall down in the first half, leaving him with five players. In four days, the Charter School playoffs were approaching, and he needed a strong and healthy bench.
Even rapper Boosie took the time to respond to the story, posting a note on his X account outlining the circumstances.
