Kevin McCarthy, a Republican congressman from California, took aim this week at his former House GOP colleagues, namely the eight who were eventually in charge of his removal from office as Speaker of the House. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), one of them, turned his hurtful remarks into a fundraising opportunity.
McCarthy made a jab at Mace on Tuesday when on a visit to Capitol Hill, stating, "I sincerely hope Nancy gets the care she needs." I just hope she receives the support she needs to turn her life around. She faces a lot of obstacles, really.
In a video he released on Monday on Twitter/X, Mace responded sharply, using McCarthy's own comments as a rallying cry that they are still in love.
Hey, everyone. Nancy Mace here. Guess what? I heard the former speaker — disgraced former speaker — was talking a lot of smack this week and said that I need help. Well, guess what? I do need help. I need your help to raise a dollar, $5, $10, $100 for my campaign to hit back against the establishment, to hit back against corrupt DC, to hit back against people like McCarthy. He put our majority at risk. He lied to the American people. He couldn’t even hold his speakership because he’s a loser. So, yeah, Kevin — I need help. I need help to raise money so I can hit back at you and your handpicked opponent, who’s now your puppet running in South Carolina against me.
Daniel Hanlon, Mace's former chief of staff, is the main opponent in her South Carolina district. McCarthy allegedly pushed him to decide to run against his old employer.
