A Democratic opponent of the Biden administration's and Israel's war in Gaza, she wants voters in her state to make a statement during the presidential primaries.

Listen to Michigan campaign aired a video on February 27th, in which Representative Rashida Tlaib encourages Dearborn primary voters to choose "uncommitted" rather than President Biden. The Hill reported that she claims campaign participants feel disregarded by the administration. The only American member of Congress who is Palestinian-American, Tlaib, said in the video, "Come here and vote uncommitted if you want us to be louder." She continues, "We want to stand up for every single person lost in Gaza."

During the introduction of Listen to Michigan earlier this month, the organizers said that they did not see voting against Biden as being equivalent to endorsing Donald Trump. "Biden has abandoned us, so it is really the Biden administration that is taking over the White House," said Layla Elabed, Tlaib's sister and the group's campaign manager.

Before her associates would even speak with the Biden team about supporting the president's reelection, she insisted that there would need to be "a strategy surrounding a lasting cease-fire and a re-evaluation of military financing to Israel," according to NBC News. Elabed said, "This goes beyond an election." "I think the Democratic Party has basically abandoned this kind of humanitarian politics."

According to NBC, administration officials traveled to Dearborn to have private meetings with local leaders and Muslim and Arab American activists. Two guests have family in Gaza, according to participant Abbas Alawieh, who described the gathering as "very uncomfortable at various periods." "There was shouting at various points, and there was sobbing at other times."

According to the Wall Street Journal, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, "We are going to listen and hear what leaders of that community have to say."
