Americans distrust numerous important organizations in the United States, notably the national news media. According to the Center Square Voters' Voice survey, 43% of Americans trust the media, while 54% do not.

Younger individuals were more inclined to trust the media, with 47% indicating they do and 46% stating they don't. The figures deteriorate as prospective voters age, with 41% of those 65 and older saying they trust the media, compared to 57% who don't.

With the presidential election approaching in November, the survey also questioned respondents how confidence they are in the following statement: "The media will report on the issues that matter the most to you." Only 42% of respondents were confident, while 54% were not.

When asked whether the "media will cover all candidates fairly," 31% were confident, while 65% were not. Only 36% of potential voters believed the "media will provide enough context for voters to understand their choices," while 60% were skeptical.

Democrats were significantly more inclined to trust the national news media, 63% to 33%. Only 24% of Republicans indicated they trust the media, whilst 73% do not. Independents agreed, 35%-59%, on the same topic.

Republicans have been increasingly distrustful of the media for years, but former President Donald Trump famously referred to the media as "the enemy of the people" and "fake news," escalating the conflict between Republicans and the media.

The mainstream media has come under criticism for its coverage of Trump, for rejecting the Hunter Biden laptop story as Russian influence when time has revealed it to be substantially accurate, and for promoting the now-largely discredited Trump-Russia connection thesis, among other things.

In terms of other US institutions, the survey indicated that Democratic voters do not trust the Supreme Court, while Republicans do, and Independents are divided. Overall, 56% of probable voters trust the court, compared to 40% who do not.

The U.S. president received a comparable grade, while Congress did far worse. According to the study, just 41% of probable voters trust the US House of Representatives, while 54% do not.

The United States Senate performed little better, with 46% trusting and 50% not trusting. According to the research, American likely voters trust their state legislatures 59%-36%.

In March, the Center Square Voters' Voice Poll was performed in collaboration with Noble Predictive Insights, with 2,510 respondents divided fairly evenly between the two parties and 340 actual independents. The margin of error for likely voters is +/- 2.1 percent.
