Republicans and Democrats are criticizing the GOP leaders behind a party fundraiser that took place in Kansas on Friday night and asked attendees to kick and beat an effigy of President Biden. Former state party chairman Mike Kuckelman said on social media, "I do not agree with President Biden's policies, but he is a fellow human being," according to the Kansas Reflector. "No one should condone or defend this horrific and shameful conduct." He demanded the resignations of the chairmen of the Republican parties in the state and Johnson County.

Adding a mask of President Biden to an interactive self-defense display outside of the exhibitor area marred the weekend's festivities, according to Maria Holiday, the chairman of the GOP in Johnson County, a suburban town close to Kansas City. It was unfortunate to take off the mask."

The Kansas City Star reported that she claimed nobody paid to be allowed to smash the effigy. Former Kansas lawmaker Jan Kessinger, who is involved in GOP politics, attributed the shifts among state Republicans to Donald Trump's impact. "Teddy Roosevelt talked about a bully pulpit, but they forget the pulpit part and they have just become bullies," Kessinger said.

As stated in a statement by the Kansas Republican Party, no state-level party leaders were there, according to the Washington Post. However, Kuckelman brought out the fact that no Republican politician has apologized. "I think they are standing firm that it was OK for them to do this, and it is really disturbing," he said.

Johnson County native Dinah Sykes, the Democratic Leader of the Kansas Senate, pleaded with elected Republicans to denounce the "disgusting" effigy setup, stating that "this is invoking violence." Attendees paid $100 to $300 to hear Ted Nugent's keynote address at the "Grand Old Party" fundraiser, which took place in the Overland Park Convention Center.
