A lawyer representing rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs has expressed concern over the federal government's recent raids on two of his client's residences, suggesting that the use of force may have been excessive.
According to NBC News, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents carried out searches at Combs' residences in Los Angeles and Miami on Monday. This was part of a federal criminal investigation into allegations involving sex trafficking, sexual assault, and the illegal solicitation and distribution of narcotics and firearms.
"Yesterday, there was an excessive display of military force when search warrants were carried out at Mr. Combs' residences," stated attorney Aaron Dyer. The authorities' excessive show of force and hostility, as well as their treatment of his children and employees, is completely unjustifiable. Mr. Combs was never held, but he had a conversation with and assisted the authorities. Contrary to what the media is saying, Mr. Combs and his family members have not been arrested and their ability to travel has not been restricted.
Dyer referred to the raid as an unexpected attack, despite the fact that law enforcement often carries out raids with a display of force. He strongly criticized what he believed was a well-organized media presence, which he argues has caused the public to form hasty opinions about his client.
According to him, the raid was nothing more than a baseless witch hunt fueled by unfounded accusations made in civil lawsuits.
"None of these allegations have resulted in any criminal or civil liability," he stated. "Mr. Combs maintains his innocence and remains committed to tirelessly fighting to prove his innocence."
The Department of Homeland Security issued a statement on Monday night, acknowledging the law enforcement operation that took place during the raids. However, no additional information was provided.
"Today, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) New York carried out law enforcement actions as part of an ongoing investigation, with support from HSI Los Angeles, HSI Miami, and our local law enforcement partners," the statement explained. "We will keep you updated with more information as soon as we have it."
