Though she did not address voters' concerns about the president's apparent cognitive decline, former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stated on Tuesday that voters should not worry about President Joe Biden's "old" age and should vote for him anyway because that is "how you are going to save democracy."
During a Super Tuesday appearance on the radio show "Mornings with Zerlina," Ms. Clinton remembered that "someone the other day said to me: 'Well, but, you know, Joe Biden's old."
"You know what, Joe Biden is old," I said. Let us acknowledge the truth now. She said, "Joe Biden is old," referring to the president-elect, who will be 82 in November.
Six out of ten American citizens, according to a recent survey by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, question whether President Biden has the memory and mental acuity required to carry out his duties as president. President Biden is the oldest president in American history. That is a tiny increase from January 2022, when around half of those surveyed had the same opinion.
Ms. Clinton just said that voters should choose President Biden because the alternative—former President Donald Trump—is purportedly a threat to democracy, without discussing the candidate's mental or physical suitability for office.
She referred to President Biden as "the contest between one old candidate who has done an effective job and does not threaten our democracy."
She referred to President Trump, who is 77 years old, as "and we have another candidate who is old, barely makes sense when he talks, is dangerous, and threatens our democracy."
"Select between the two of you and decide how you are going to preserve our democracy," she said.
Ms. Clinton cited statements made by President Trump regarding the need to "clean house of all the warmongers and 'America Last' globalists and the Deep State," as well as his desire to be a "dictator" for a day in order to resolve the border crisis and undo President Biden's anti-fossil fuel policies, as proof of how he is allegedly a threat to democracy.
