Authorities reported that a Mexican illegal immigrant was detained on Saturday after he allegedly killed a Washington State Trooper by colliding his automobile with theirs on Interstate 5. When a driver hit Trooper Christopher Gadd's stopped police cruiser near Marysville, he was traveling south on Interstate 5. Several stories state that he was declared dead at the site.

According to Fox 13 Seattle, which cited probable cause papers, the suspect, named as 32-year-old Raul Benitez Santana, has acknowledged to using marijuana and consuming alcohol before to operating his black SUV.

A witness reportedly provided dash camera video to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, supposedly showing Mr. Santana's vehicle speeding and veering into the back end of Mr. Gadd's patrol car.

After thereafter, Mr. Santana's vehicle veered into the fast lane and struck a van that was carrying six passengers. The report states that the other passengers in the vehicle were uninjured, but the driver of the van suffered a fractured wrist.

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) identified Mr. Gadd as "a promising young man" who had been with the WSP for more than two years. Mr. Gadd was killed in the collision at about three in the morning.

After placing Mr. Santana on an immigration detainer, which mandates that law enforcement authorities inform ICE prior to releasing a person who is facing removal from custody, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said this.

An ICE official said that Mr. Santana entered the country "without admission or parole by an immigration officer." When ICE officers first saw him in Burien in 2013, he had been detained for not showing up for court after it was claimed he was driving on a suspended license.

Following the death of Augusta University nursing student Laken Riley, who was reportedly assaulted by a Venezuelan man, this issue arose in the midst of political discussions about an immigration law. The "Laken Riley Act," approved by the House on Thursday, would permit the detention of any immigrant who commits larceny or burglary.

On February 29, the Georgia state House approved a measure enabling law enforcement officials to apprehend people who may be in the country illegally. Additionally, it gives law enforcement officials the power to detain anyone who break federal immigration rules and arrest them.

The measure requires sheriffs to notify federal authorities of any illegal immigrants they detain. Local governments may lose state money or federal assistance handled by the state if they do not comply.
