Gallup issued its annual poll on Wednesday, which found that over 28% of women in the youngest adult cohort in the US identify as LGBTQ, with the majority of them being bisexual. In 2012, the polling organization started inquiring about Americans' sexual identities. Adults who identify as non-heterosexual have increased from 3.5% to 7.6% throughout that period.

The pollster said that the likelihood of a younger generation identifying as LGBTQ is around double that of the generation that came before it. Compared to almost one in ten millennials (1981–1996), over one in five Americans in Generation Z (born between 1997–2012) identify as LGBTQ.

In the 2024 study, 28.5% of Gen-Z women identified as LGBT, mostly as "bisexual" (20.7%), with lesbians making up 5.4% and transgender people making up 2.1%. Bisexuals (6.9%) outnumbered homosexuals (2.8%) among males of the same generation who identified with the rainbow flag (10.6%).

In contrast, the study found that 12.4% of women and 5.4% of males in their millennial years identified as LGBTQ. Compared to bisexual or transgender people, older Americans were more likely to identify as homosexual or lesbian.

Generally speaking, bisexuals make up 4.4% of US adults, whereas homosexuals and lesbians make up little over 1%. At 57.3%, bisexuality is the most common identification among LGBT people. Given that the poll included many categories, Gallup did see some overlap in the identities of respondents.

A phone poll of over 12,000 Americans who are at least 18 years old provided the basis for the findings. 85.6% of respondents identified as heterosexual, 7.6% indicated they identified as a member of one or more LGBTQ groups, and 6.8% did not respond.

The US government of today is fully committed to promoting alternative sexual identities both domestically and internationally. In contrast, targeting kids and LGBTQ "propaganda" are prohibited in Russia. President Vladimir Putin recently said that, as long as individuals do not flaunt their non-traditional sexual orientations and leave the kids alone, Russia is "quite tolerant towards people with non-traditional sexual orientations."
