Russia has accused Ukraine of being involved in an assault on a Moscow music venue that left over 100 people dead. On Saturday, Kyiv said that it refuted these accusations.
As the attackers attempted to escape to Ukraine, Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Saturday that it had captured them.
Mykhaylo Podolyak, an assistant to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, said on X, a platform that was once Twitter, that "the versions of Russian special services regarding Ukraine are absolutely untenable and absurd."
This was the bloodiest assault to strike Russia in over 20 years, and Islamic State has claimed responsibility.
"They attempted to flee, driving in the direction of the Russian-Ukrainian border... the offenders meant to cross the Russian-Ukrainian border and had the necessary contacts on the Ukrainian side," the FSB had said. It did not provide any further information.
Without offering any proof, a few Russian politicians and former president Dmitry Medvedev have also alluded to a potential link to Ukraine.
Russia said on Saturday that it had detained 11 individuals, including four attackers. However, Moscow has not addressed the Islamic State's claim of accountability or revealed the identity of the attacker in its opinion. According to Kyiv's own intelligence agencies, it was a "planned and deliberate provocation by the Russian special services on Putin's orders" on Friday.
