On Thursday, a federal court in New York denied Donald Trump's request for an extension of time, with the deadline for him to begin making payments in the E. Jean Carroll defamation case approaching. Trump requests an additional three days to "finalize bond arrangements" and intends to fight the $83.3 million ruling.

As to The Hill, a bond has to be paid in order to postpone paying the whole amount owed until the matter is in court. In his decision, US District Judge Lewis Kaplan said that Trump has until January 26 to get his financial house in order. According to USA Today, Kaplan wrote, "Mr. Trump's current situation is a result of his own dilatory actions."

Carroll may begin attempting to collect the $83.3 million next week, unless Trump obtains a court order in a timely manner, according to USA Today; the verdict becomes official on Monday.

Preparations to deposit bail would "impose irreparable injury in the form of substantial costs," according to Trump's legal team, according to the AP. The financial aspect did not sway Kaplan, who said that Trump had not provided any information on the cost.

The $454 million he owes, including interest, after the loss of a New York fraud lawsuit is another financial strain. In one instance, he proposed to post a $100 million bond to postpone final payment, but a different court rejected that idea.
