Clippers' Quest for NBA Glory Marred by Dark Past: FX Trailer Shakes League

With four future Hall of Famers on their roster, the Los Angeles Clippers are favorites to win the franchise's first championship in the NBA playoffs. However, a new trailer from FX serves as a somber reminder of what was likely the team's darkest period in history and rocked the entire league.

FX released the teaser for "Clipped," a miniseries that explores the events leading up to Donald Sterling's lifetime suspension from the league, on Thursday.

The cast of "Clipped" includes Ed O'Neill as Donald Sterling, Jacki Weaver as Shelly Sterling, Laurence Fishburne as Doc Rivers, and Cleopatra Coleman as V. Stiviano, Sterling's secretary.

After introducing Rivers as the team's newest coach, the teaser plays a clip of Fishburne declaring, "The Clippers have never won a championship, ever."

Additionally, there is a hint of an affair between Sterling and his helper in the trailer.

Before calamity hit in 2014, Donald Sterling, in real life, controlled the Los Angeles Clippers for 33 years.

When an audio tape of him uttering racist remarks went viral that spring, the NBA opened an inquiry. O'Neill utter the statement, "Do not bring Black people to my games," in the trailer.

In addition to facing a lifetime NBA ban and a $2.5 million punishment, Donald Sterling was also required to sell the franchise.

On June 4, "Clipped" will be accessible for viewing on Hulu.

But sports lovers and Angelenos know that the true narrative ends happily.

In August of 2014, former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer placed a bid and formally acquired the Clippers. His vivacity, friendliness, and excitement were welcome after such a disgusting incident.

Ballmer is a familiar sight while watching the Clippers play. Additionally, he was instrumental in making sure the Clippers would have their own arena, which is scheduled to open this summer.
