According to Mohammad Jamshidi, an Iranian presidential aide, Iran has issued a warning to the US to avoid getting involved in any possible conflict between Iran and Israel. In response, Washington has advised Tehran against targeting American facilities.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran has issued a written message cautioning the US leadership against falling into Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's trap," "It is advisable to keep a distance in order to avoid any potential harm," Jamshidi wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

"In response, the US requested that Iran refrain from targeting American facilities," he added.

Iran has alleged that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted an airstrike on its consulate in Damascus, Syria. The attack reportedly resulted in the deaths of seven officers from the elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, including two generals. The IDF maintained its standard practice of neither confirming nor denying operations conducted outside of Israel. However, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant strongly implied Israel's involvement when he stated on Wednesday that the country actively targets its adversaries throughout the Middle East.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Iranian Supreme Leader, has expressed his determination to respond to the situation, affirming that Israel will face consequences for their actions. In preparation for a potential retaliatory strike, the IDF took immediate action by canceling all leave and activating measures to disrupt satellite signals over Tel Aviv.

US officials have yet to clarify their stance on whether a potential Iranian attack on Israel would warrant military intervention. Despite previous warnings from Washington, Iran has largely refrained from involvement in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. Instead of directly engaging in the conflict, Iran has maintained its strategy of providing weapons and training to Shia militias in Iraq and Syria, as well as Lebanon's Hezbollah movement. These groups have been involved in clashes with American and Israeli forces since the conflict started in October.

In an interview with CNN on Thursday, John Kirby, a spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, expressed the United States' deep concern regarding the possibility of a conflict between Israel and Iran. He also emphasized that the US will maintain its commitment to providing military assistance to Israel.

Jamshidi's post is the initial recognition from both parties regarding the behind-the-scenes discussions between Washington and Tehran following the embassy strike. According to an anonymous American official who spoke to Axios on Tuesday, the United States made it clear to Iran that they were not involved in the strike and had no prior knowledge of it.

Addressing the mourners at a funeral procession for the slain officers in Tehran on Friday, IRGC commander Hossein Salami emphasized that the Islamic Republic will not let any actions by its enemies go unanswered.
