Following an early-morning break-in at her residence over the weekend, the Los Angeles mayor is safe. According to the AP, a Sunday statement from the LAPD said, "Around 6:40am this morning an individual smashed a window to gain entry into the Getty House while occupied," which is Karen Bass' official LA house. Although the Democratic mayor and her family were at home when the incident occurred, Bass' office said that the mayor and her family were unharmed. The police also stated that a suspect had been apprehended and placed under arrest.

In a statement, her office said, "The mayor is grateful to LAPD for responding and arresting the suspect." The culprit, 29-year-old Ephraim Matthew Hunter, was apprehended and charged with burglary, according to the KTLA. A nearby resident expresses amazement that someone managed to break into Getty House. "There is a gate and a fence around it," observes Jud Grubbs. "I am sure there are cameras, and there is usually a lot of presence around the house." Records cite KABC as saying that Hunter's bail was $100,000.
