Potential Executive Order: Amnesty for Spouses of U.S. Citizens Denied Green Cards

An executive order that would provide amnesty to over a million illegal aliens who married U.S. citizens but were denied green card benefits is being considered by Joe Biden.

A significant portion of Americans regard the problem of illegal immigration and the southern border crisis as their top concern, and the president is considering taking more action before the 2024 election to address both of these issues.

Even though immigrants—including those who are here illegally—usually have the opportunity to become citizens of the United States by marrying an American, there are a variety of reasons why they could not have received this privilege.

In these situations, the person's prior history of obtaining false documents or illegal immigration are two major factors that contribute to their denial of citizenship.

The Wall Street Journal was informed by White House sources that the Biden administration is primarily considering a "parole in place" scheme for spouses of U.S. citizens who were not originally awarded citizenship as a solution to this issue.

The immigrants would have access to work permits and a road towards citizenship under the temporary status.

The administration has floated a number of possibilities, and although the specifics of an executive order have not yet been finalized or authorized, the suggestion to use the nuclear option to target another group of immigrants is not new.

According to one official, the White House has spoken about making an announcement just before the election as a one-two punch after issuing an executive order that would probably enrage immigration supporters.

According to reports that surfaced earlier in April, Biden is thinking about limiting the number of migrants who may apply for asylum at the southern border by using an executive order put in place by the previous president Donald Trump.

In an early April interview, Biden said to Univision's Enrique Acevedo, "We are examining whether or not I have that power."
