According to the Butte County District Attorney's Office, a former middle school teacher in Butte County entered a plea of not guilty to charges alleging that she had intercourse with a 14-year-old pupil in 2021.
During her preliminary hearing on Tuesday morning, Gridley resident Michelle Christine Solis, 46, entered a new plea of not guilty.
It is said that Solis, a former Sycamore Junior High School teacher, started contacting the 14-year-old kid on Instagram after following him. The youngster studied with Solis.
The district attorney's office said that before engaging in sexual activity with him in a secured classroom on the day of his eighth-grade graduation, she had emailed him nude pictures of herself.
In October 2023, rumors and reproductions of the pictures started to spread across the Gridley neighborhood. Gridley Police detectives visited the youngster and examined the contents of his phone, according to D.A. Ramsey.
There they discovered correspondence between Solis and the youngster, as well as two explicit photos of Solis that corresponded with the boy's earlier statements. A month after being taken into custody, Solis was freed upon posting a $15,000 bail.
According to the district attorney's office, Solis's plea agreement required her to register as a sex offender and she may spend up to four years in state prison. June 6 is the day when Solis is expected to be sentenced.
