Donald Trump failed in his late Monday attempt to delay his hush money trial in New York and move it out of Manhattan. ABC News reports that Judge Lizbeth Gonzalez did not say why she turned down the request, even though Trump's lawyers had filed it hours before.
The defense said at a meeting on Monday that the case has gotten so much attention that it is hard to find a fair and unbiased jury for the criminal trial that starts next week. A lawyer replied that since Trump is well-known across the country, there is no reason to think that possible jurors in Manhattan are "uniquely susceptible" to bad news about the case. "The mere fact that they know about this case is not an indication of bias," he said.
Anyway, Wu told the judge that Trump has gotten most of the press because he talks about the case a lot, both online and in public. Wu told CNBC that he could not make a lot of noise and then use that to get a different setting.
The AP says Trump has said that Staten Island would be a good place for the hearing. In his two runs for president, he only won that one neighborhood in New York City. Trump is also challenging a gag order he's under in the case; the appeals court indicated it will get to that issue later.
