House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., received praise from former President Donald Trump, who said that Johnson is "a very good person" and that he is "trying very hard." He made these remarks on Monday night in an interview with radio presenter John Fredericks of Real America's Voice.
Trump said, "Look, we have a majority of one [in the House]." It is not as though he is free to do as he pleases. He seems like a very kind guy to me. He seems like a pretty kind dude to me. I believe he is making a great effort. And once again, in order to strengthen the Republican majority in the House, a very significant election is required.
"We need to elect some excellent senators and remove some of the current ones, like [Utah Senator Mitt] Romney and others. We need to win the presidency and have a great day.
Because Johnson spearheaded the $95 billion foreign assistance package that is now in the Senate and supported the $1.2 trillion spending measure, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., officially filed a motion to remove Johnson on Friday. Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., used the same process to oust then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., in October, and Greene filed a petition to vacate the chair.
