GOP Members in Congress Fight Biden's Move to Extend Obamacare to Undocumented Border Crossers

Republicans in Congress are opposing a recent Biden administration regulation that would have allowed tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants to get ObamaCare. One member is trying to thwart what she claims is an attempt to encourage illegal immigration.

A resolution of disapproval of a regulation published last week that would enable illegal immigrants who entered the country as minors and are protected by an Obama-era order to be eligible for ObamaCare is being introduced by Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C.

The Obama administration said that ObamaCare would be available via HealthCare.gov and state-based markets to anyone enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Arriving only days before the 2024 presidential election, the government projects that the regulation would allow more than 100,000 undocumented immigrants who were previously uninsured to get health insurance. To do this, the regulation modifies the qualifying criteria by implementing what HHS refers to as "technical modifications" to the meaning of "lawfully present".

The resolution reflects the rejection of the regulation by Congress. For a resolution to become law, it must pass both the House and the Senate and get enough votes to override the veto of the president.

"Joe Biden, ‘Border Czar’ Kamala Harris, and impeached DHS Secretary Mayorkas flung our borders wide open, caused an invasion of our country by illegal aliens, and prioritized giving taxpayer benefits to illegal aliens over American citizens," Mace said in a statement sent to Fox News Digital. "This rule to give taxpayer subsidized healthcare to 100,000 illegal aliens is yet another example of this administration putting America Last and actively incentivizing illegal immigration."

"Congress must stand up and put a stop to this madness," she said.

In his announcement about the rule last week, Biden upheld it and reiterated his demands that millions of other undocumented immigrants and those he dubbed "Dreamers" be given a road to citizenship.

"Dreamers have made significant contributions to our nation, and I am determined to giving them the resources they need to be successful. For this reason, I have already instructed the Department of Homeland Security to "preserve and fortify" DACA by taking all necessary measures. And for that reason, we are making history today by implementing this historic move to provide DACA beneficiaries the same access to health care under the Affordable Care Act as their neighbors ".

"I offered Congress a comprehensive immigration reform package on the first day of my office to safeguard Dreamers and their families. The only body that can grant Dreamers citizenship and permanent status is Congress. Congress needs to take action.
