Interpol Issues Red Notice for Mother and Son in Istanbul Crash: International Pursuit Begins; Fled To U.S.

The state-run Anadolu news agency said on Thursday that Interpol has approved Turkey's request to issue a red notice for a 17-year-old who was involved in a deadly vehicle accident in Istanbul, along with his mother, who fled with him to the United States.

According to the report, Turkish author and poet Eylem Tok and her son received a red notice from Interpol on Thursday. Took traveled to the United States via Egypt after the March traffic incident.

On March 1, the adolescent was operating an automobile when it collided with another vehicle on the outskirts of Istanbul, killing one person and injuring four others, according to officials.

The Turkish media first published images of Tok and her kid in New York in March. In the same month, Turkey requested the mother and son's extradition from US officials.

A red notice is an order for law enforcement to track down and temporarily detain someone while they await extradition, surrender, or other legal action.

According to Turkish media, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was still looking into Oguz Murat Aci's death and the injuries of four other people.

We will be brought to justice, Tok said in a written statement that was made public by the Demiroren news agency a few days after the event. My son and I deeply apologize to the public on our behalf.
