Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Roars to Record-Breaking Success!

With Caesar's death in the last movie, everyone was watching to see whether the series could survive, therefore Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is excellent and sort of needed to be. It turns out that not only did it work, but it also broke records for the franchise.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the fourth movie in the recently revived Planet of the Apes series, had an incredible first weekend, earning $129 million globally and $22.2 million domestically on its first day of release. It is the greatest opening weekend of any franchise movie, according to DiscussingFilm.

That the movie is doing so well is hardly shocking. Despite having a somewhat lower overall aggregate score than earlier entries in the series, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes received excellent reviews. Nevertheless, the movie is audacious and endearing, and a terrific stride forward for a series that very easily might have gone flat, as we noted in our own review of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Approximately 300 years have passed since the events of War for the Planet of the Apes, which culminated in Caesar's tragic demise as the ape rebellion's leader and guide to a calm and tranquil planet, the setting for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. After humans have become wild and apes are mostly living in peace, the Kingdom starts up with a role reversal, but some have eventually corrupted Caesar's teachings.
