An arrest has been made in relation to a 35-year-old female teacher from Louisiana who is accused of having sex with at least one of her pupils and emailing her students nude images. Initial accusations about Alexa Wingerter's suspected illicit interactions with her male pupils prompted police to launch an investigation into the matter in early March.
Wingerter was employed as a teacher at the 1,700-student public school Slidell High School. Investigators discovered that Wingerter had been using social media to send the students offensive images and messages. This information was obtained via interviews and the execution of search warrants. Sources that the authorities located said Wingerter purchased alcohol at nearby pubs for her minor pupils.
Wingerter's sexual involvement with a male student, who was barely eighteen, during her time as his instructor was the most damning evidence the investigators uncovered. Wingerter used to have frequent intercourse with the male student, but she did not disclose their connection until it came to light during the inquiry.
Uncertainty surrounds the topic Wingerter instructed students on.
The St. Tammany School Board, Wingerter's employers, released a statement after she was arrested.
Our first concern is the security and welfare of our pupils. Superintendent Frank Jabbia said, "Our district has reacted appropriately and is fully assisting the Slidell Police Department in their investigation."
According to the statement from the school, "Any allegations of inappropriate conduct are taken very seriously and are reported directly to law enforcement officials."
"We have strict policies in place to ensure that any behavior compromising the safety of our students is not tolerated."
"We will continue to prioritize the safety of our students above all else."
According to WDSU, Wingerter was accused of both illegally purchasing alcoholic drinks on behalf of a person under 21 and engaging in sexual activity between a teacher and a student without permission.
Authorities are pleading with any other victims to come forward while an investigation is continuing. Wingerter will face extra difficulties if other victims emerge. Wingerter may spend years in jail if found guilty.
