Apple and OpenAI have officially joined. After months of speculation that all but cemented the merger, the IT behemoth and the AI disruptor announced their collaboration at WWDC on Monday.

As predicted by Apple insiders, OpenAI will include ChatGPT, which is powered by GPT-4o, into Siri and its operating systems. ChatGPT now functions with a wide range of apps and features, including as Compose, Mail, and Messages, thanks to the introduction of the Siri update. Using GPT-4o's photo recognition to provide advice on backyard horticulture, asking Siri to recommend meals based on an ingredient list, and using Compose to write bedtime stories and create corresponding images are a few examples.

Apple made a strategic move in joining together with OpenAI, whose models are the industry standard for artificial intelligence, to counter Google and Samsung. Hundreds of millions of iPhone users will have direct access to OpenAI's AI models thanks to this collaboration. At the press conference, Senior VP Craig Federighi said, "AI for the rest of us."

ChatGPT will be free of charge, and there will not be any recording of requests or conversations. The same operating system functions will be available to ChatGPT users who have valid premium accounts. An element of Apple Intelligence, a collection of AI privacy-focused technologies, is the ChatGPT integration. That being said, Apple will get permission from the user before allowing any off-device sharing when using ChatGPT.

For iOS 18, iPad OS 18, and MacOS Sequoia later this year, ChatGPT will be accessible.
