Pro-Palestine Protesters Rally in D.C. Amid Gaza Hostilities: Chaos Erupts as Police Clash with Demonstrators

Thousands of pro-Palestine protesters gathered in Washington, D.C., on Saturday to demand an end to hostilities with Gaza. During the demonstration, smoke bombs were set off and participants claimed to have been maced. Independent journalist Ford Fischer shared a picture of his bloodshot face, stating that crowds had been struck with mace during an attempted arrest. Videos from the event show police sifting through the crowds as people chant slogans against Israel and the police. The protest took place while President Joe Biden was in France for an official visit.
 
The demonstration at the White House was organized to protest the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, which had been ongoing for eight months. Activists from different states were bussed in to join the massive gathering. The recent violence was triggered by an Israeli attack that resulted in the deaths of over 36,000 Palestinians. Protesters unfurled a large banner with the names of the victims and surrounded the White House. The Secret Service had taken safety precautions, including installing an anti-scale fence, prior to the protest.
 
Traffic closures were implemented due to the large crowds near Lafayette Square Park. The US State Parks Department reported no arrests as of now. Pro-Palestinian demonstrations have been occurring in the US for months, with various forms of protest taking place, such as marches, vigils, roadblocks, and encampments on college campuses. These demonstrations have been directed towards Israel, the main backer of the US, and have resulted in the resignation of at least eight members of President Biden's cabinet who expressed disagreement with his policies.
