The Democratic Party has chosen Eugene Vindman to represent Virginia's 7th Congressional District in the upcoming Democratic primary.
The primary was sparked by Abigail Spanberger's announcement that she would not run for reelection this summer, preferring to run for governor of the Old Dominion the following year. Seven Democrats, including former state representative Elizabeth Guzman, Virginia house representative Briana Sewell, retired army colonel Eugene Vindman, Carl Bedell, Clifford Heinzer, and Prince County Supervisor Andrea Bailey and Margaret Franklin, were running for the nomination.
Vindman and his twin brother, retired Army Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, gained attention during the first impeachment of former President Donald Trump. Both served on the National Security Council under the Trump administration. Vindman raised over $5 million during the primary, significantly more than both Democrats and Republicans, thanks to large campaign contribution hauls.
