When his wife died while he was doing cosmetic procedures on her, a plastic surgeon in Florida is being charged with murder. An official statement from the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office says that 41-year-old Benjamin Brown is charged with second-degree criminal homicide: murder by guilty carelessness. CBS News says that Brown's wife, Hillary Brown, 33, had a heart attack in November while he was working on her. What the police say is that Brown did not call 911 or start CPR right away.
According to the Pensacola News Journal, Hillary father says his daughter died "because of the fault of one careless person." "His ego and arrogance overshadowed the need for help, prolonging oxygen deprivation to her brain and ultimately causing her death." In addition to scar correction, arm liposuction, and lip and face injections, Brown was doing many other treatments on his wife, as reported by People. Hillary Brown also took a "handful" of pills, some of which were Valium, and "prepared her own" IV bags before the surgery, according to state medical inspectors.
Brown also did not properly record his numbing treatments, according to the investigators. Clinton Brown had a seizure at some point during the surgery. "Over the next 10-20 minutes, a medical assistant asked Dr. Brown if they should call 911 and Dr. Brown said 'no,' or 'wait,'" state police say. The new employee who was supposed to help did what was asked. Brown did call 911 in the end. Hillary was added to the hospital's life support system and later passed away.
