Missouri's attorney general, Andrew Bailey, has announced that his agency will sue New York for engaging in "lawfare against" former President Donald Trump. Bailey believes that the state has overtly assaulted the democratic system by enacting unlawful laws targeting Trump and that it is time to restore the rule of law.
A Manhattan jury found Trump guilty on 34 charges of fabricating documents to bribe porn actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election. Bailey has requested the Department of Justice (DOJ) to provide correspondence about Trump's unlawful prosecutions, including exchanges between the DOJ and district attorneys of Manhattan, Fulton County, Leticia James of New York, and Alvin Bragg of Manhattan. Bailey believes that Biden's corrupt Department of Justice is the headquarters of the illicit prosecutions against Trump, thanks to evidence that has come to light.
Bailey cited the move of Matthew Colangelo, the third-highest ranking member of the Department of Justice, to the Manhattan District Attorney's Office in December 2022 as evidence that the investigations into Trump appear to have been carried out in tandem with the DOJ. Alvin Bragg, the district attorney for Manhattan, collaborated with New York Attorney General Letitia James to pursue civil litigation against Trump, using that experience as a platform to advocate for his current position.
Bailey used the Freedom of Information Act to obtain the correspondence, including agendas, meeting minutes, and calendar entries. He also requested access to all comparable correspondence between the DOJ and the offices of Bragg, New York Attorney General Leticia James, and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
