Ukraine and the US have signed a 10-year bilateral security agreement, a gesture hailed as "historic" by Kyiv.

The agreement calls for US military and training assistance for Ukraine, but does not obligate Washington to commit forces to fight alongside its friend. The White House states that Washington and Kyiv will collaborate to establish and preserve Ukraine's military and deterrent capacity, reinforce the nation's defense industrial base, and promote economic recuperation and energy security.

The security agreement also stipulates that in the event of Russia's armed assault on Ukraine in the future, discussions will be held at the highest levels to determine appropriate measures to support Ukraine and impose costs on Russia.

The $3 billion will be used as part of the G7 plan to settle the yearly interest on the $50 billion loan that the Ukrainians obtained from foreign markets. The $50 billion loan would "put that money to work for Ukraine and send another reminder to [Russian President Vladimir] Putin that we are not backing down," according to Biden.

He stated that Putin "cannot wait us out, he cannot divide us, and we will be with Ukraine until they prevail in this war."
