Charges Dropped for Columbia University Protesters Against Israel

Columbia University demonstrators who took a school building to protest against Israel have had their charges dismissed by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The district attorney dropped 31 of the 46 individuals it had filed trespassing charges against, mainly due to a lack of evidence.

14 more defendants were offered the chance to have their cases dismissed if they avoided being arrested within the next six months, but they turned that offer down. As a result, they will have to appear in court again on July 25. The 31 instances that were dismissed included either Columbia, Barnard, or Union Theological Seminary staff members or students.

There are now two active proceedings involving defendant James Carlson, who is unaffiliated with Columbia University, for different offenses, one of which involves burning flags. The defendants' counsel requested that the court drop all charges against them at the moment, claiming there is no proof that any of them had harmed anybody or caused property damage.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) organized against an anti-Israeli protestor camp at Columbia University and demanded that the school feed them.
