Bodies of Missing Georgia Firefighters Found in Tennessee: Authorities Confirm

Authorities declared that the bodies of the two Georgia firefighters who went missing at the end of last month were discovered hundreds of miles away in Tennessee.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Hinesville, Georgia, police department said that Raegan Anderson and Chandler Kuhbander were found in Cocke County, Tennessee, along with Anderson's vehicle.

Nothing further was disclosed to the public. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation or the Cocke County Sheriff's Office were contacted by police with queries. An spokesperson for the sheriff's office said on Tuesday afternoon that the TBI is in charge of the investigation.

"TBI agents are working alongside the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the circumstances leading to the death of two people after their bodies were discovered inside a vehicle along Hollow Road in Cosby on Sunday morning," according to a statement released by the state agency.

The bodies have been sent for autopsy to determine names and cause and manner of death. TBI claims that the inquiry is still underway.

According to Liberty County Fire Chief Brian Darby, the news concerning two of the department's firefighters brought him immense grief.

In a press release, Darby said, "These two incredibly dedicated employees put their hearts and souls into protecting and serving the citizens of Liberty County." "The families are in our thoughts and prayers during this extremely trying time, as is the department."

Cocke County, Tennessee, is about 400 miles north of Midway, Georgia. Last week, Hinesville police posted information about the two missing firefighters on Facebook. A photo of Anderson's black 2017 Ford Focus was included in the message.

Anderson was last saw on June 25 at Liberty County Fire Services Station #1. Authorities in Knoxville, Tennessee, told NBC affiliate WBIR that they think Kuhbander—who was previously listed as missing in Liberty County—may have been with Anderson.

While Kuhbander's automobile was found close to Savannah, Georgia, Anderson's car was last spotted in Richmond Hill, Georgia, before it was found in Tennessee, according to the station.
