Following the tragic loss of "Friends" star Matthew Perry at the age of 54 last October, his family has publicly expressed their grief and gratitude toward law enforcement for their serious approach to his case. The Morrison family, in a statement to USA TODAY, conveyed their heartache over Matthew's passing but found solace in knowing that authorities were diligently pursuing justice. "Seeing justice unfold has been a source of comfort to us," they stated, acknowledging the efforts of various agencies in investigating the circumstances surrounding Perry's death. They also expressed hope that those involved in supplying dangerous substances would be deterred by these legal actions.

Keith Morrison, a renowned "Dateline" correspondent and Perry's stepfather since marrying Suzanne Perry, Matthew's mother, in 1981, previously discussed the profound impact of Matthew's death on the family. In an emotional conversation on the "Making Space with Hoda Kotb" podcast back in March, Morrison revealed how deeply Suzanne was affected by her son’s loss. He highlighted the enduring nature of such a loss, noting it as a constant presence that brings new challenges daily. Despite this sorrow, Morrison found some comfort in recalling how close Matthew and Suzanne had become towards his life's end, sharing moments and communications that reflected a deep bond.

The relationship between Perry and his mother was notably stronger during his final days, marked by frequent exchanges and heartfelt conversations not commonly shared between middle-aged men and their mothers. This rekindled closeness brought joy to Perry who had struggled with happiness for years. However, Morrison lamented that despite this late happiness, Perry was deprived of what could have been a significant next chapter in his life.
