In a forceful address to the nation on Saturday night, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed the elimination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah as a significant triumph for Israel and a stern caution to Iran.

Speaking fluently in Hebrew, Netanyahu characterized Nasrallah not merely as a terrorist but as the epitome of terrorism, underscoring his responsibility for the loss of lives across various nations including Israel, the United States, and France. He underscored that Friday evening's successful airstrike served as a stark warning to the "regime of the ayatollah" in Iran, echoing sentiments he previously expressed at the United Nations General Assembly.

Netanyahu's assertion that "Whoever strikes us, we will strike them" was reinforced by this military action, demonstrating Israel's unwavering commitment to defending itself against threats. The prime minister suggested that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar might now be more inclined toward negotiating a hostage release deal, recognizing that Nasrallah's fate means he cannot expect rescue from Hezbollah.

Netanyahu extended a message of solidarity to those in the Middle East and around the globe who feel threatened by Iran and Hezbollah's actions, asserting Israel's readiness to stand with its allies even though he conspicuously did not mention direct support from the United States in his speech. This comes despite the Biden administration’s efforts towards brokering a ceasefire prior to this decisive strike—an effort they continued to pursue while also acknowledging Nasrallah’s demise.

Reflecting on the year since the October 7 terror attack which had Israel's adversaries believing it was teetering towards collapse, Netanyahu confidently stated that these foes now recognize their hopes have been thwarted. His closing remarks were firm; Israel remains resolute in its offensive against enemies, dedicated to restoring security for its citizens and securing freedom for all hostages—a priority never absent from their agenda.
