Elon Musk, tech billionaire and entrepreneur, made a headline-grabbing CPAC debut, waving a DOGE-themed chainsaw and voicing his support for President Donald Trump’s bid to cut federal bureaucracy. The event, held Thursday, saw Musk take center stage, donning black sunglasses and a MAGA hat, where his unconventional antics and polarizing remarks quickly captivated the crowd.

Musk’s appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference underscored his growing influence in national politics. Recently appointed as an adviser to the Department of Government Efficiency, Musk has taken on the task of identifying and eliminating wasteful federal spending. Addressing the CPAC audience, Musk confidently stated, “The amount of waste in the government is truly astounding. I’m here to get good things done while having a good time.”

With Republicans embracing Musk's unorthodox approach, he has become a key figure in Trump’s campaign to streamline government operations. Musk even hinted at using some of the savings identified by the department to fund $5,000 dividend checks for Americans. “Trump is serious about these reforms,” Musk declared, drawing applause from the crowd.

Despite the warm reception from conservatives, Musk’s rise in politics has ignited fierce backlash from Democrats. Critics argue that his involvement in the federal government could create conflicts of interest, potentially benefiting his businesses at the expense of working-class Americans. Musk, however, dismissed these accusations with characteristic humor. “If I steal from Social Security, I can finally buy nice things,” he quipped, drawing laughter from the audience.

Musk also addressed allegations of working with Russian President Vladimir Putin, sarcastically remarking, “He can’t afford me.” These statements, while provocative, have done little to calm his detractors, who see his rhetoric as inflammatory and dismissive of legitimate concerns.

From waving a chainsaw gifted by Argentine President Javier Milei to coining the phrase “legalize comedy,” Musk’s unique style resonated with attendees. His remarks about comedy being stifled by the left further solidified his standing among conservatives who view him as a free-speech advocate.

Musk’s unpredictability and boldness have earned him a reputation as both a disruptor and innovator in the political sphere. His supporters argue that his outsider perspective and business acumen are exactly what Washington needs to address inefficiencies and foster growth.

Elon Musk’s CPAC appearance has only deepened the divide between his supporters and critics. While Republicans hail him as an eccentric genius, Democrats remain wary of his motives and influence. As Musk himself admitted, he never expected to be a central figure in conservative politics. “It’s cool,” he told the crowd. “This is awesome.”

His role in the Department of Government Efficiency and his high-profile presence at CPAC signal a shift in how tech leaders engage with politics. For some, Musk represents a refreshing break from tradition; for others, he is a symbol of excess and unpredictability.
