Attorney General Pam Bondi has ordered FBI Director Kash Patel to investigate why thousands of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein were withheld by the bureau. Bondi revealed this startling development on Thursday, emphasizing the urgency of transparency in the matter. She directed Patel to deliver the complete set of Epstein-related files to her office by 8 a.m. Friday, ensuring no omissions.
In a formal letter to Patel, Bondi stated she had previously requested all FBI files on Epstein, only to receive approximately 200 pages. These limited documents primarily included flight logs, contact lists, and victims' names and phone numbers. Despite her repeated inquiries, the FBI assured her the documents provided were complete. However, Bondi recently learned from a source that the FBI’s New York Field Office holds thousands of additional pages tied to Epstein’s investigation and indictment.
“This new information is deeply troubling,” Bondi wrote, expressing frustration over the FBI’s lack of disclosure. She insisted on receiving all relevant materials, including records, documents, audio recordings, video files, and any other evidence related to Epstein and his associates. Bondi also stressed that public disclosure of these files would prioritize protecting victims’ privacy and adhere to legal standards. Reflecting her career as a prosecutor, she vowed to handle the matter with sensitivity and integrity.
Moreover, Bondi directed Patel to launch an immediate investigation into why the FBI failed to comply with her initial order. She demanded a comprehensive report of findings and proposed personnel actions within 14 days. This investigation aims to uncover any internal lapses or intentional misconduct within the bureau.
In response, Patel took to social media, posting on X (formerly Twitter) his commitment to transparency and justice. He assured the public that the FBI, under his leadership, would operate with integrity and accountability. Patel declared, “There will be no cover-ups, no missing documents, and no stone left unturned.” He promised to identify any gaps, recover hidden records, and present findings to the Department of Justice for transparent dissemination.
Patel further emphasized his dedication to constitutional values, pledging that anyone hindering the investigation would face swift consequences. “The oath we take is to the Constitution,” Patel stated. He concluded by reaffirming that the FBI is entering a new era, defined by truth and justice.
Meanwhile, Bondi appeared on Fox News on Wednesday to discuss the matter. She indicated plans to release some Epstein-related information, including flight logs and the names of individuals closely tied to Epstein. These documents, Bondi noted, were “sitting on my desk” in accordance with a directive issued by President Donald Trump.
The Epstein case has drawn significant public attention. Epstein faced charges of sex trafficking in 2019, years after investigations, arrests, and jail time linked to other sex crimes. A month after his 2019 arrest, Epstein was found dead in his jail cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York. His death, ruled a suicide, fueled widespread speculation and scrutiny surrounding his connections and the handling of his case.
