The Pentagon has launched a crackdown on unauthorized leaks of national security information, with Defense Department staff potentially facing polygraph tests. This move comes as part of efforts to address growing concerns over the release of classified data.

In a memo released Friday, Joe Kasper, chief of staff to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, ordered an immediate investigation into leaks across the Defense Department. The directive tasks the director for Defense Intelligence with identifying and documenting all unauthorized disclosures. The goal is to create a comprehensive report for the Secretary of Defense, complete with recommendations for preventing future leaks.

Kasper’s memo emphasized urgency, stating, “This investigation will commence immediately and culminate in a report.” He added that any suspected leakers must be reported without delay, with cases referred to law enforcement for potential prosecution.

The same day this crackdown was announced, the Justice Department confirmed an investigation into leaked intelligence about Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan transnational narcoterrorist group. The leaked information, described as “inaccurate but classified,” has intensified efforts to address internal security lapses.

Deputy Attorney General Tod Blanche strongly condemned these leaks, linking them to political motivations. He criticized what he called attempts by the “Deep State” to undermine President Trump’s administration. This follows the January designation of Tren de Aragua as a foreign terrorist organization by the Trump administration.

Polygraph tests will be administered “in accordance with applicable law,” the memo noted. While such measures aim to tighten security, they also raise questions about privacy and workplace trust within the Defense Department.
