Prior to President Joe Biden’s official visit to El Paso the next week, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas stated that the U.S.-Mexico border was “not open” for illegal immigration.

Despite many million attempts to enter the country illegally since Biden took office two years ago, Mayorkas insisted that illegal immigration was not permitted as he briefed media on important upcoming revisions to immigration policies on Thursday afternoon.

Let me be clear: the border is not open, regardless of whether Title 42 is in effect, Mayorkas declared during the news conference in Washington. “DHS will exercise its long-standing Title 8 immigration enforcement authorities to process all people apprehended at the border once the Title 42 public health order is lifted,” it said.

In preparation for his trip to Mexico later next week, Biden will travel to the West Texas city on Sunday. The southern border crisis has its headquarters in El Paso. Since the middle of August, more than 90,000 unlawful border crossers have been released downtown and allowed to stay in the country pending further legal proceedings.

Hundreds of immigrants were living outside on single city blocks during the week before Christmas due to capacity shortages at facilities sponsored by humanitarian organizations.

In December, Border Patrol agents detained more than 2,000 illegal immigrants daily on average, making the city the southern border’s main hub for illegal immigration. To ensure that fewer illegal aliens would slip through the cracks, Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) sent hundreds of military personnel and state troopers to the border. contacts with illegal aliens have substantially decreased since December 20, leaving little for Biden to see.

More illegal immigrants have been encountered during the Biden administration than throughout the whole eight-year Obama administration, with 5 million interactions occurring in just under two years.
