The first cache of President Joe Biden’s confidential documents, which were found at a think tank last October, purportedly contained top secret intelligence.

The national security could suffer “exceptionally grave damage” if this information were to emerge. Around 10 documents from his time as vice president were found overall at the Washington think tank, and fewer than 10 were found at Biden’s garage in the second batch that was uncovered in Wilmington, Delaware, according to a source who spoke to CBS. This brings the total number of recovered classified materials to about 20, the source said.

An envelope with approximately 10 secret files, including information about Iran, the Ukraine, and the United Kingdom, and dated from 2013 to 2016, had been reported by one of Biden’s attorneys. On Nov. 2, six days before the midterm elections, the initial finding was made in an office at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement.

According to White House lawyer Richard Sauber, Biden “often frequented this room from mid-2017 through the start of the 2020 campaign.” Documents found there were previously known to have included “important compartmented material.” Biden’s staff informed the National Archives and Records Administration of the discovery and searched the president’s homes in Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, afterward.

A second batch of confidential documents were discovered during that search in his Wilmington garage, next to his beloved 1967 Corvette Stingray. On December 20, Biden’s staff notified the Justice Department of that discovery. According to CBS, no top-secret documents were found in Wilmington.

Attorney General Merrick Garland stated that on January 12, Biden’s staff also notified the DOJ of a “other document carrying secret markings.” The Rehoboth search turned up no reportedly secret materials.

The classified document scandal rocked the Biden administration this week, and on Thursday, Garland revealed that U.S. Attorney Robert Hur had been appointed as a special counsel to look into the situation. According to Biden, he is “cooperating completely” with the relevant government agencies.

The scandal surrounding Biden’s confidential materials has been compared to that surrounding former President Donald Trump, who has reprimanded his successor.

Last year, more than 300 classified documents, including top-secret ones, were found at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club. Asserting that a president can declassify information “just by thinking,” Trump has denied any wrongdoing and asserted that he did so. Special counsel Jack Smith, who is in charge of the inquiry, is questioning Trump. He has called the investigation a “big fraud.”
