The president “remains fit for duty,” according to Joe Biden’s doctor, according to a report released by the White House on Thursday. On Thursday morning, Biden, 80, boarded Marine One for his annual physical examination at Walter Reed Medical Center. Later that day, Dr. Kevin O’Connor issued a written report of the president’s physical examination.

Several “stable” medical conditions, including non-valvular atrial fibrillation, hyperlipidemia, gastroesophageal reflux, seasonal allergies, “mild” sensory peripheral neuropathy of both feet, and his gate, which “remains stiff but has not worsened since last year,” are being treated for by Biden, according to his health summary.

His lab results for a complete blood count (CBC), comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP), urine, vitamin D and magnesium levels were all normal. A tiny lesion on the president’s chest was discovered and excised during the checkup before being submitted for a conventional biopsy.

After testing positive for the virus twice in July, O’Connor continued by saying that the president had not displayed any “residential symptoms which may be considered long COVID.”

The president is still getting regular eye, dental, and skin cancer screenings. Also, he keeps working out at least five teams each week. In light of all the minor findings, Biden is still an 80-year-old male who is fit to carry out the responsibilities of the office, according to O’Connor’s assessment.

In light of a recent poll that revealed 72% of American adults thought the president is “too old to function in government,” Biden’s physical results seem timely.

Prior to the 2024 election, some voters will have Biden’s age on their minds. Although Biden hasn’t said if he wants to run for office again, there are rumors that he might do so shortly.

The president said he is “very excellent shape” and defended his age in a September interview with 60 Minutes. When asked how he would reply to people who doubt his suitability for the position, Biden replied, “Watch me.”

That’s all I think, I swear to God, continued Biden. “If you believe that I lack the necessary energy or mental clarity, well, that’s one thing. It’s one thing to observe and continue with my routine and activities. I’ve seen that when I sit down with my NATO allies and keep them together, they don’t ask, “Wait a minute, how old are you?’… I believe it has to do with your energy level and whether or not the job you’re doing is one that anyone of any age would be able to perform.

At his inauguration, when he was 78, Biden set a record for the oldest person to be sworn in as commander in chief in American history.

Donald Trump, who was 70 years old at his 2017 inauguration, held the record for the oldest president to ever take office. At the time of the 2024 election, for which he has officially confirmed his candidacy, Trump will be 78 years old. In contrast, Biden will be 81 at the time of the 2024 election, and because of this, some people in his own party have begun to wonder whether he’ll seek reelection.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney, a Democrat from New York, made news last year when she declared during a debate that she didn’t think Biden would seek for office again. Maloney later corrected her remarks, but she didn’t reveal how she felt about another Biden run for office.
